Hollywood heartthrob Tom Cruise is all set to soar high in the jet engines yet again for the second installment of Top Gun. The actor surprised his fans on Thursday when he made an appearance at the Comic-Con and dropped the first exhilarating trailer of Top Gun: Maverick.

Judging by the trailer, Tom’s danger-seeking naval aviator — Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell — hasn’t changed much since audiences saw him last in 1986. Though his attitude is the same, he is content with his life as a captain even when his superior points out that he should be an admiral by now.

The latest edition seems to embrace the original’s fondness for beautiful imagery, chasing jets on motorcycle, Maverick’s favourite bomber jacket and aviator glasses. It also welcomes new cast members like Jon Hamm and Miles Teller.

A few other things are new to the franchise. The all-white, all-male crew from the original is extinct. Top Gun:Maverick brings the first female pilot on board with Chicago Justice star Monica Barbaro. We also get a good look at the Oscar-winner Jennifer Connelly, who will star alongside Cruise in the female lead role. Tom’s main adversary, Tom “Iceman” Kazansky (played by Val Kilmer), will also reprise his role.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, Top Gun: Maverick is scheduled to release on June 26, 2020. Watch the trailer to find out more:
