Tonite with HSY Season 4 Episode 1: You cannot fake charm and the debut episode of Tonight with HSY Season 4 proved just that. Osman Khalid Butt with his wit, personality and charm really was the best thing we’ve seen on TV all week. We were pleasantly reminded of The OB that came to our attention back in 2012 when he offered his hilariously smart Vlogs instead of the stiff and uncomfortable onscreen persona that he usually exudes nowadays and in this episode we can say that Osman was definitely not just a “Jenny from the block,†which he jokingly remarked on HSY’s couch.
Hassan Sheheryar Yasin is somebody not alien to the camera and his zealous mannerism into Season 4 was the perfect mood lifter for us; it has definitely put this show on our weekly watch list. However, in an awkward turn of events HSY, after questioning Ainy Jaffri about her husband, his profession and her relationship with him, went on to ask about a selfie she took with Ranbir Kapoor and if they are just friends or something else. To this question, Ainy Jafri was quick to respond calling Ranbir her best friend and apologizing to Mawra (who openly crushes on him) for taking him away from her, all in good humour we suppose. It seemed a little forced to us! In fact, there were several moments in the show that felt a little ‘trying too hard’, drawing parallels to what this show is desperately trying to refute, Koffee with Karan.
Ainy Jafri felt very uncomfortable and nervous throughout the episode, which was odd considering being in front of the camera is exactly what she should be good at. By the time we really felt like she was ready to let go and relax, the episode was over. And the big Contradiction gift card that was awarded to her felt quite unfair since OB clearly deserved that win. The man has a sense of humour and can be quite good when he’s not putting on an act!
The first episode of Tonite with HSY came across as fun, quirky and filled with that tongue and cheek humor that TV needs right now. We did feel that the Balu Mahi angle was a little dated since the movie has been over and out for quite some time now and we would’ve liked to see Sadaf Kanwal join this duo too. But we will be tuning in next week to see what HSY will be putting forth and we will be scrutinizing every celebrity that sits on the couch. This should be fun!
