After receiving multiple accolades and titles from around the world, young Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai’s biopic is getting a special screening by United Nations later this month.

The Nobel laureate’s biopic Gul Makai will be screened in London on January 25, for 450 members of the UN including Pakistani, British and Indian High Commissioners. Intergovernmental Institution for the use of Micro-algae Spirulina Against Malnutrition (IIMSAM) members along with Malala and her parents will also be in attendance, Mumbai Mirror reported.

The director of the film, Amjad Khan revealed how UN was taken on board for the screening, “I had to really push a lot as is usually the case. I even managed to get them to agree to my using the UN and IIMSAM logos in the film which is a privilege. This is the first time they have organized an event like this,” Amjad said.

 

Malala

 

While the biopic will be showcased at the UN Headquarters in New York as well, the director revealed that the film will also release in theatres in India. “We are looking at an April date, after the exams.”

Based on the real-life struggles and achievements of Malala, the Indian biographical drama stars Reem Shaikh as Malala, Divya Dutta as Toor Pekai Yousafzai and Atul Kulkarni as Ziauddin Yousafzai. Om Puri will be seen in his final film playing a significant role along with Mukesh Rishi.
