Beo Raana Zafar first came in spotlight with Asim Abbasi’s Cake where she played a quirky mother to Aamina Sheikh, Sanam Saeed and Faris Khalid. Interestingly, in Mehreen Jabbar’s recently released web-series Ek Jhoothi Love Story (EJLS), Beo again played the wife of actor Mohammed Ahmed and their chemistry was yet again on point. However, not many  people know that she is a standup comedian and a poetess.

Something Haute got in touch with the vivacious and multitalented actor to get to know more about her. When asked why we get to see so less of her work despite being such a powerhouse of talent, Beo replied that she never thought about it.

“I never chased work in this industry; I did whatever I was offered and life went on,” she said.

Beo has been doing standup comedy for over 15 years, so how did she get into this business of making people happy?

“Ever since I can remember, I was observing people and mimicking them and seeing the absurd side of it. My grandmother was very upset about it. Then I sort of made it my brand as I just saw everything as absurd since childhood. I started with The Citizen’s Foundation in a garden party. They were private parties and there were no recordings uploaded on YouTube so there wasn’t any exposure; I was doing it for the love of doing it,” Beo replied.

What was her initial reaction when she was offered Nusrat Jehan in EJLS?

“I said yes instantly because I had never worked with Mimi (Mehreen Jabbar) before. It’s like a surgeon performing on a relative. They requested for me after Cake and I’m sure Mimi had some apprehensions about it as well but it went smoothly,” she said.

She also shared some of her personal favourite moments from the series. “Mohammed Ahmed sahib and Furqan… all of them are very innovative actors. So, the scene with Furqan where we talked about loki and teenday and her sister’s suitors, it was all improvised and we laughed a lot after doing it. Another one was with Ahmed sahib when I just uttered ‘zehrila marad’ spontaneously. I loved the scene where Nusrat insisted to go by car and after reaching at the place, blamed her husband,” Beo laughingly said.
