Popular singer Zayn Malik has revealed that throughout his time as a member of One Direction, he did not befriend any of the other bandmates.

The acclaimed English-Irish boy-band, One Direction came into being as a result of X Factor. After having finished third on the 7th season of the show, television producer, Simon Cowell signed the boys to launch their music careers. The band started off in 2010 and in 2015, vocalist, Zayn Malik bid farewell to the band.

Speaking about the intense schedule during his time with the band, Zayn told the British Vogue that there were hardly any breaks in between. “We went from theatres to arenas, to stadiums – there was never any sort of bridge between. Just boom, boom, boom. I guess that kind of progression to any mind – especially when you’re 17 or 18 – it kind of effects you a little bit. People take it in different ways; especially when there are five different personalities. The relationships had broken apart.”

He added that during the five years of his musical career with the band, he did not make any friends. “Yeah, I have always been a bit like that, though; always a bit of an island. I don’t like to confer with too many people,” he shared during his interview.

When asked if he is still in touch with the now One Direction band members, he said he has not spoken to them since a while now because derogatory things were said about him after he left. “Nah, I ain’t spoke to any of them for a long time, to be honest with you. That’s just the way it is. There’s things that happen and things that were said after I left – snide things – small things that I would have never expected.”

The Pillow Talk singer also revealed that while he was still part of the pop boy-band, his interaction with fellow band member, Harry Styles, was at a bare minimum. However, he has no regrets and is content with both his professional life as a solo artist and personal life with girlfriend Gigi Hadid.
