Every year, Time Magazine reveals a Person of the Year, who the publication feels has had the most effect on the globe. Naturally, this year, it had to be the women who spoke up against sexual abuse they had faced in the media industry, sparking an international debate. However, if like us, you have a keen eye for detail, then the cropped person in the frame may have intrigued you too.

Amongst the magazine’s cover featuring public figures like Taylor Swift, Ashley Judd, Susan Fowler, Adama Iwu, and Isabel Pascual, it also includes the elbow of a sexual harassment survivor, who stayed anonymous to protect her identity and her family.

The woman who was cropped out of the cover is reportedly a young hospital worker from Texas who told her story anonymously to protect her family’s livelihood. According to Time, she decided to share her experience with sexual harassment ‘as an act of solidarity to represent all those who could not speak out.’

Much like the New York Times Magazine cover framing the survivors of Bill Cosby’s sexual abuse and an empty chair, Time’s cover is a testament to the women who changed the world in 2017 by speaking out.
