Haroon Shahid is a fairly popular face on Pakistani television. The musician-cum-actor stepped into the entertainment industry as the lead singer of a pop-rock band, SYMT. He became well-known as The Ganderi Boy because of his rendition of Naseebo Lal’s song Pyar Di Ganderi. Later, he forayed into acting with Shoaib Mansoor’s film, Verna. Lady Luck was smiling on him as he got to work with a veteran filmmaker as well as a superstar like Mahira Khan as his leading lady in his debut role. He was married to Mahira’s character, and though theirs was a turbulent relationship, the couple was together till the very end of the movie.

Little did he know that it was going to be a rare occurrence in his career because it has been observed that Haroon Shahid never gets the girl in any of his projects. Currently, Haroon is appearing in Hum TV’s Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay alongside Mahira, and her character (Mehreen) left him in the most recent episode. Soon after the episode aired, the actor’s social media was bombarded with DMs and comments that “Again you didn’t get the girl”.

A loyal fan even went on to make an emotional compilation of scenes from Haroon’s projects and titled it ‘Justice for Haroon’s characters’. This is quite an accurate observation as the actor posted it on his social media and agreed that only the person who made this video can relate to his sorrow. He also listed dramas like Khaas (Sanam Baloch), Do Bol (Hira Mani), Muqaddar (Madiha Imam), Qayamat (Neelum Muneer), Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay (Mahira Khan), in which the character played by Haroon is never chosen by his love interest.

Haroon tweeted that this is his “Dastaan e Ruswai. Someday I’m going to play such an evil role that I’ll kill everyone in the play accept for the leading lady. I think that’s my best chance of ending up with the ‘girl’ in a drama!” he wrote.

And then he casually pointed out his own typo and related it with the conundrum he is facing in dramas.

“When you’re so used to accepting everything that’s happening to you that even when want to write ‘except’ you end up with ‘accept’  Maaro mujhay oh Maaro mujhay,” he added.

Interestingly, the actor usually plays roles with positive traits like a boy-next-door, a good cousin, an open-minded friend or a sincere suitor. These roles that do not necessarily have a negative vibe, yet he is unable to get the girl. Perhaps, the unfortunate reason is that Haroon is usually playing the second male lead in TV dramas where the female leads mostly end up with the male lead, or not with any guy whatsoever. The story arcs of second leads are not well thought-out in most of our dramas and are merely used as fillers or a complexity in the plot.

Fortunately, another one of his recent characters, Saim, got married to Fajar (Srha Asghar) in currently airing Aakhir Kab Tak. It appears that as a caring and supportive husband Saim, the actor will emerge victorious this time and he will get his lady in this drama. We sincerely hope Aakhir Kab Tak will help him break this cycle of unrequited love. Fingers crossed!

There is more to come; Haroon will be soon be seen in ARY Digital’s Amanat alongside Imran Abbas, Urwa Hocane and Saboor Aly. Judging by the teasers, the story seems to be a complex family drama involving matters of love and marriage. So, we will have to wait and watch to see if Amanat will change his fate for mate.

The actor took to Instagram and asked his fans: “Kya phir say script writer wohi karay gee meray Saath jo hamesha hota hai? #Amanat”

Jawani ke din chamkile ho gaye
Husn ke tewar nookilay ho gaye
Hum izhar karne me thode dheelay ho gaye,
AUR UNKE HAATH PEELE HO GAYE
