The Bollywood version of Sadat Hasan Manto’s biopic is all set to release in India soon, and by the looks of it we might just get to see it in Pakistan too – or at least that’s what Nandita Das is hoping.

Taking to Twitter, Nandita recently tweeted that she is currently trying to get Manto to release in Pakistan.

She wrote, “We’re working towards releasing the film in Pakistan soon.”

Manto initially premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this year and will be released worldwide on September 21. However, Pakistan has remained a major question mark for the film’s release given the biopic’s plot.

The film focuses on the controversial writer – who already seems distraught with life – questioning why his stories are criticised while all it does is show the facets of reality. Amongst all of it, he also looks at his beloved Bombay parting away, as the nation of Pakistan arises and the prospect of moving to Lahore becomes a reality.

The film Rasika Dugal, Divya Dutta, Rishi Kapoor and Tahir Raj Bhasin in pivotal characters, apart from Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

Do you think the film will release?
