With 2019 entering its last quarter, television dramas are going through a swift shift like every year. Many remarkable plays like Ranjha Ranjha Kardi, Inkaar and Cheekh wrapped up, leaving us with memorable characters and ever-lasting performances, whilst a new wave of anticipated dramas will soon hit the small screen.

Although we are eagerly waiting to watch them, we are also hoping that these won’t disturb what we already have on our must-watch list. Viewers are already hooked to Surkh Chandni, Khaas, Meray Paas Tum Ho and Ishq Zahe Naseeb and we certainly wish that none of the new dramas clash with the already-airing ones so that we can enjoy each to the fullest. Nevertheless, fingers crossed that all of these will be made available on YouTube in case we are in a last moment crunch.

What’s most exciting are some new on-screen pairings to obsess over (hopefully) and ensemble casts that await us as well as a possibility of new and improved storylines. Here is a list of some of the most anticipated dramas, a few surprise projects and a handful of new plays that we’ve heard about.

Daasi

Daasi

Although Daasi is a love story at its core, the lead actors – Mawra Hocane and Adeel Husain – will be seen as an on-screen couple for the first time. In a recent conversation, Mawra shared with us that finally she won’t be crying in a drama and that’s a plus. Adeel Husain will appear on small screen after a long hiatus and his fans must be delighted. From what we’ve seen in the teasers and the little that the actors have already revealed to us, Daasi portrays the journeys of two individuals. Directed by Mohsin Talat, Daasi will air from 16th September, every Monday at 8pm on HUM TV.

Ehd-e-Wafa

Even though the brains behind the project have categorically denied any link to Alpha Bravo Charlie, Ehd-e-Wafa evokes certain nostalgia with its story of four college buddies on their journey of hardships and hustles, who are willing to sacrifice for their country. Add the serene locales of Lawrence College, Murree and few crazy pranks to the mix and it is hard to ignore this new project. Starring Ahad Raza Mir, Osman Khalid Butt, Ahmed Ali Akbar and Wahaj Ali in lead roles, this will be a breath of fresh air amongst the saas, bahu and sazish potboilers. We are looking forward to the chemistry between Zara Noor Abbas and Osman along with Ahad and Alizeh Shah. Directed by Saife Hasan, the drama will air soon on HUM TV.

Bewafa

The presence of a second woman in a marriage is a done to death storyline. However, Ali Rehman Khan, Navin Waqar and Ushna Shah are a trio to look forward to in Bewafa. Navin played the other woman in Humsafar and since then we have seen her more or less as an antagonist; it will be refreshing to watch her play the gullible wife. Bewafa is backed by Fahad Mustafa’s Big Bang Entertainment and directed by Aabis Raza. Judging by Fahad’s earlier productions, we expect it to be more than a story of a cheating spouse or an evil home wrecker; however, let’s wait till September 16th to find out the rest on ARY Digital.

Imran Ahsraf & Neelam Muneer’s romantic drama

Imran Ashraf is all set to attempt something different this time around as our beloved Bhola will now become a romantic hero in his next play on Geo Entertainment. Neelam Muneer is playing the female lead in the play which will air very soon.

Alif

Alif

Ever since the announcement of star-studded drama serial Alif last year, there is so much hype around the play which features an ensemble cast including Sajal Aly, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Kubra Khan, Ahsan Khan, Osman Khalid Butt, Sadaf Kanwal and Manzar Sehbai to name a few. It is penned by Umera Ahmed and directed by Haseeb Hasan, hence the hopes are sky high. After seasons have passed, along with Sajal’s engagement and Hamza’s wedding, the drama will finally air this month on Geo Entertainment. Moreover, we will soon get to hear its OST by Shuja Haider and Momina Mustehsan.

Honourable Mentions

Hania Aamir & Feroze Khan’s project

After giving us hit drama serials like Balaa and Cheekh recently, director Badar Mehmood is on to his next challenge. His upcoming drama serial – another one produced by Fahad Mustafa’s Big Bang Entertainment — will feature an ensemble cast including Hania Aamir, Feroze Khan, Ramsha Khan and Gohar Rasheed. The play is based on a serious subject. Ramsha will play Hamna, a girl whose life gets into an unexpected situation and everyone around her bears the brunt of it. Written by acclaimed writer Mohsin Ali, who has given a masterpiece like Aisi Hai Tanhayi, the drama is scheduled to air on ARY Digital in the last quarter of 2019.

Jhooti

Well… this one indeed comes as a surprise as Ahmed Ali Butt and Iqra Aziz will feature as a couple in their upcoming drama serial, titled Jhooti. Ahmed Ali Butt is playing a middle class shop owner, who is married to Iqra Aziz’s character. Iqra will be seen playing the role of a compulsive liar, giving the drama its name. Recently Yasir Hussain revealed on social media that he is also part of the project and is working with her fiancée, Iqra, for the first time.

Ghalti

TV’s beloved couple of recent times, Affan Waheed and Hira Mani will soon be back on our screens in drama serial Ghalti. Directed by veteran actress Saba Hamid, who is also acting in it, the romantic play revolves around how anger disturbs relationships.

Prem Gali

Directed by Qasim Ali Mureed, Prem Gali is another project in the pipeline which stars Sohai Ali Abro and Farhan Saeed. Playing Hamza and Joya as principle characters, the two actors have been sharing pictures from their shoots and we’re intrigued. Produced under the banner of Six Sigma Plus and written by Faiza Iftikhar, Prem Gali will air on ARY Digital.

Bheegi Palkhain

Imran Abbas and Ayeza Khan are coming back as Zamin and Seher in ARY Digital’s upcoming play Bheegi Palkhain. We hope to see the couple in a new storyline this time.

We also found out that Sana Javed is paired with Mikaal Zulfiqar in an upcoming drama, Ruswai, in which the former is playing a doctor and the latter is a pilot. Yumna Zaidi and Bilal Abbas Khan are also shooting for a drama as well.
