For designers, when it comes to Eid collections, particularly those that land in summer, there are a number of variables at play to create garments that work in the heat, are light weight but do not sacrifice on structural design and festivity. Ammara Khan’s latest, Shooting Stars, takes on the task and delivers.

Shooting Stars plays with a diverse colour palette that includes pretty pastels in lilacs, mints, peaches and yellows, with neutrals weaved in in subtle nudes and refreshing creams and a few splashes of saturated highlighter-inspired bolds streaks of yellow, blue and coral. The wide range of colours pay homage to the warm season and the tangible feeling of celebration surrounding Eid where colour is encouraged and often missing from the typical collections that opt for overwhelming print work or subdued looks.

Ammara’s Shooting Stars goes light on the prints (there’s a stand out look in a pinstripe grey and white) and shines bright highlighting embroideries in thread work, pearl accents, lace work and delicate beading, cut work seen across shirts, sleeves and trousers, and her signature contemporary silhouettes in a mix of fabrics from chiffon to eyelet cotton. The collection is a fine example of thinking outside of the box when it comes to making a statement while being on the nose for dressing for the occasion. Case in point: an outfit with statements sleeves in layered lace, wide leg trousers in full navy blue sequins and draped pearls.

The work on the shirts and pants make dressing for day to night Eid gatherings a cinch. The trousers, which are all on trend in ghararas, straight leg pants in varying fits and lengths, and summer favourite culottes by no means play second fiddle to the shirts they accompany. Ammara has become an expert in incorporating cut work, peek-a-boo sheer detailing and giving lace new life on her trousers with a studied hand giving the texture of lace a 3D level of depth.

The designer also combines a number of creative embroideries and appliqués amongst light weight fabrics with lace and organza and even net (there’s a beautiful polka dot peach number with sheer elements that takes dreamy to another level) to make sure none of her shirts, figuratively or literally, fall flat.

The collection plays out as a playful take on Eid wardrobes particularly in including romantic elements like the aforementioned lace and pearls and further more with airy design choices like including wrap robe style shirts, short statement sleeves, sheer detailing and a mix of different silhouettes across the fashion galaxy with out compromising aesthetic.
