The talented chef, storyteller and writer, Anthony Bourdain yesterday died at the age of 61. He was in France working on an upcoming episode of his award-winning CNN series, Parts Unknown. CNN confirmed his death on Friday, stating that the cause of death was suicide.

His close friend Eric Ripert, the French chef, found Bourdain unresponsive in his hotel room Friday morning.

Anthony’s death came days after celebrated fashion designer Kate Spade died in an apparent suicide on Tuesday at her Manhattan apartment. Suicide is an increasing problem and mental health is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. Twitter responded with condolences and requested people who were considering suicide to reach out for help.

Mahira Khan and Meesha Shafi were amongst the many high profile personalities who shared their thoughts on Twitter:

“What is depressing is that there isn’t enough awareness about depression/mental health itself,” wrote Mahira.

Meesha also stressed regarding the importance of raising awareness!
