A designer known for her flamboyant sense of colour and craft, Huma Adnan yesterday opened doors to her very first bridal studio in Karachi. Situated on the first floor of Dolmen Mall, Clifton, the studio took place and position of the space where FnkAsia used to be.

The newly designed store certainly is a splash of colour as it features vibrant walls with floral print all around. It very well communicates the essence of Huma Adnan as a designer and manifests the reflection of her design and sensibilities in her clothes.

The opening was a well attended and buzzing affair.

“I’m very excited about the launch of my bridal store, which has been a labour of love and brings together a mix of cultures and distant roots,” Huma spoke to Something Haute at the event. She further went to elaborate her take on bridal wear. “My designs are for enlightened women. My bride shouldn’t feel restricted by norms and should be able to wear what she wishes to, even if that requires a mix of several colours. She should feel empowered and accomplished, while relating to the traditions when it comes to weddings.”

Every designer has a different aesthetic but what we learned from Huma Adnan’s collection is that it has much more than just bridal wear to offer. There is some interesting semi formal wear, which could complement all occasions given the richness of colour in every shade. It would be fair to say that we see a semblance of FnkAsia in her designs, so for those missing out on the brand, this collection serves the purpose on a higher scale. The prices are amazing and quite unprecedented, we must add.

The store also came with a display of The Craft Stories by Huma Adnan; this is an initiative that the designer has taken in collaboration with the UNHCR to economically rehabilitate refugee women in Karachi. They have made, as part of their first collection, a selection of stunning handcrafted jewellery, the earrings were an instant hit amongst customers.

The store launch was an elegant affair with singer Hadiqa Kiani donning a gorgeous embroidered skirt and jacket exclusively designed by Huma herself. Among other familiar faces, her daughter Parisheh Adnan and husband/designer Amir Adnan graced the occasion with other popular faces like Adeel Hussain, Hira Tareen and Sarah and Noor Khan who also modelled the lovely collection that evening.
