One of the singers behind Coke Studio’s hit track Sammi Meri Waar, Umair Jaswal will join forces with pop sensation Aima Baig and Sufi maestro Attaullah Esakhelvi for a concert titled ‘A Mystical Dream’ in Dubai tonight.

Something Haute caught up with the singer ahead of the concert and the first question that popped up was that is he planning to sing his version of Zaalima Coca Cola pila de in the concert?

“It’s so strange; everybody wants us to sing that song,” Umair replied.

Here is a session of quick and fiery questions with him…

Quratulain Baloch or Meesha Shafi, who do you think makes a better singing combination with you?

I will be biased in this one. Meesha Shafi because she is a dear friend of mine.

Sammi Meri Waar or Zaalima?

Zaalima

Your go-to song?

I have very bad musical memory. If I listen to something, it gets stuck in my head. I just heard a song before boarding the plane; it was Tunak Tunak Tun by Daler Mehndi.

What’s your take on the recent LSA controversy?

Guys, it’s just awards. It’s like that everywhere in the world, even the Oscars are not fair. Friends give awards to each other. I believe people who are fretting over this need to know they are bigger than the awards.

Any legendary singer who you are in awe of or you want to meet?

I have met all the legendary singers of Pakistan who are still alive. I have performed with Abida jee and Atta sahab. From India, I would love to meet A. R. Rahman.

3 things that you don’t leave your house without?

My accessories, glasses and sneakers.

Ali Zafar or Atif Aslam?

Atif Aslam

One song that describes you the most?

Born to be Wild by Steppenwolf.

One confession: what do you take home when you check-out from a hotel?

Slippers. I know some people who even take hair dryers home.

You dream car?

I still plan to buy it; a Mustang!
