Cinemas are finally set to welcome movie lovers following the coronavirus lockdown. Three Pakistani films (Khel Khel Mein, Kahay Dil Jidhar and Parde Mein Rehne Do) have already released their teasers/trailers and are all set to hit the screens. Until they do, cinemas have opened with a schedule of Hollywood films including Venom, Eternals, Dune and Jungle Cruise.

Amongst the few Pakistani releases, the teaser of Wajahat Rauf’s next film Parde Mein Rehne Do starring Ali Rehman Khan and Hania Aamir was released over the weekend; it comes as Rauf’s fourth cinematic offering.

The clip opens with some wedding festivities and a grumpy Javed Sheikh screaming out of his house to keep the volume down, followed by some suggestive (and distasteful, one feels) humour surrounding wedding nights. The teaser continues with more of this.

The teaser is confusing, to say the least. Ali Rehman Khan and Hania Aamir are always a pleasure to watch, but they appear to have zero onscreen chemistry here. In the mix of chaos, there is a song with terrible lyrics and choreography, awful costumes and some scenes of heartbreak where the two lovers are seen separated due to unfortunate circumstances.

It’s truly challenging to make much more of the teaser.

Despite making their debut with Janaan, speaking of the film in an exclusive chat with Something Haute, Ali shared that this is the first time he and Hania are actually working together. “It is a very well-written script by Mohsin Ali and I was unable to say no to it. It is about the love between these two characters, but it is so much more. There is situational comedy and it’s a fast-paced film,” he had shared.

Written by Mohsin Ali and produced by Wajahat Rauf, Shazia Wajahat and Wajahat Ali Abbasi, the film also stars Noor ul Hassan, Sadia Faisal, Saifee Hasan amongst others. Earlier, it was revealed that the movie is a romantic comedy that carries a social message.

We truly hope there is more than what the teaser offers.
