The award-winning film Joyland will be finally seeing the light of the day after much await! The film is set to release on 18th November in cinemas across Pakistan.

Joyland has bagged many awards on International platforms including winning the Queer Palm and Un Certain Regard Jury Prize at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, where it also got an eight-minute standing ovation. In addition, the film also won the award for the ‘Best Film From The Subcontinent’ at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. However, it also got another standing ovation this September at the Toronto International Film Festival at its North American premiere.

It has been announced that the film will be distributed nationally by IMGC Distribution Club.

Director, Saim Sadiq shared the poster of the film on his Instagram. He announced the release date of the film and penned a heartwarming caption. An extract from it said:

“There couldn’t have been a better way to announce this then by sharing our poster – this heartbreakingly beautiful painting by a Pakistani artist I admire so much, Salman Toor. No image could ever represent the collective human essence of Joyland better than what Salman has so graciously given us and I’m forever in his debt!”

Written by Saim Sadiq and Maggie Briggs, directed by Saim Sadiq, and produced by Sarmad Khoosat, the film features Ali Junejo, Alina Khan, Rasti Farooq, Sarwat Gilani, Sania Saeed, Sohail Sameer, and Salmaan Peerzada.

According to IMDb the film depicts the story of ‘the happily patriarchal Rana family craves for the birth of a baby boy, the youngest of the Rana men secretly joins an erotic dance theatre and finds himself falling for a fiercely ambitious trans starlet. Their impossible love story slowly illuminates the entire Rana family’s desire for a sexual rebellion.’

Needless to say, we are excited about the film’s release and counting down the days!
