Dynamic duo of Pakistani cinema, Nabeel Qureshi and Fizza Ali Meerza, revealed the trailer of their upcoming film Khel Khel Mein on Monday at a meet and greet session at the Beach Luxury Hotel.

The event was attended by the lead pair Sajal Aly, Bilal Abbas Khan, Manzar Sehbai, Naveed Raza and many new faces who will be introduced in the film. Zhalay Sarhadi was the host of the evening which was graced my media personnel, bloggers, and celebrities like Madiha Naqvi, Saqib Malik, Nadeem Baig and Fahad Mustafa amongst others.

It was an evening to celebrate the come back of films in theaters after a depressing period of nearly two years during which no new films have released in Pakistan. It is yet to be seen if Nabeel and Fizza will be able to take this golden opportunity and turn the risk of “being the first film post-covid” to their advantage, but the trailer surely is engrossing enough to pull audiences into theaters.

Speaking about the film, the star power of the lead pair in undeniable and fans of Sajal and Bilal will surely turn to theaters to watch Khel Khel Mein from November 19th. Sajal and Bilal are playing two students who will be seen participating in a theater competition held in Dhaka, and Sajal’s character wants to portray the story of the Fall of Dhaka and the Indo-Pak War of 1971, however, Bilal insists on not broaching the subject of Pakistan’s defeat once again. It appears from the trailer that the film is pin-pointing fingers but it is largely putting forward the sentiments of those who faced the mass migration, uncertainty and hysteria 50 years ago.

Speaking at the occasion, Manzar Sehbai sahab shared that this film has the ability to make the audiences think.

“Khel Khel Mein has a narrative that will start a dialogue within you which is what we need in our country. It gives you room to disagree and argue, and makes you think after you have seen the film. This film will give viewers an opportunity not just to get entertained but also have conversations,” he said.

When asked what made Sajal and Bilal choose this script as the two didn’t sign a film after their big screen debut —Zindagy Kitni Haseen Hay (2016) andThora Jee Le (2017) respectively — the actors jokingly admitted that they wanted to work with Nabeel Qureshi since childhood.

“I always wanted to work with Nabeel Qureshi since I was a kid, and finally, I got a chance. I got wise after doing my first film and decided that it is better to wait it out and work with experienced people. It waited for better opportunities and signed up for Khel Khel Mein without even knowing what the script was. For a film, I wanted to portray a character that should be different from what I have done before. So, I have performed this role as Nabeel Qureshi has instructed me,” Sajal shared.

“I have not worked hard on this character; I used to go and eat on set and enjoy the work because I have a very simple character but the story of the film is very interesting. I am very greedy as an actor so I always wanted to work with a good team; a good director, producers, co-actors which is why I took time to sign for a second film,” Bilal said.

Nabeel Qureshi also made a surprise announcement at the trailer launch that his film — Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad — starring Mahira Khan and Fahad Mustafa will release next. “When is Quaid-e-Azam’s birthday?” he asked and said: “We will release it then,” assuring the fans that QAZ will release on December 25th.

Nabeel also shared that it is Fizza who takes all the tough decisions about release dates. “I am very nervous when it is time to make tough decisions and this time, it was about releasing the first film post-covid. So, Fizza takes all these brave calls.”

“I believe no delivery should go beyond nine months,” Fizza answered about being the first to take the risk of bringing a Pakistani film back in cinemas after covid.

Khel Khel Mein is directed by Nabeel Qureshi and produced by his partner, Fizza Ali Meerza, under the banner of Filmwala Pictures. The story, screenplay and dialogues are also by this talented duo. The film stars Sajal Aly, Bilal Abbas Khan, Marina Khan, Manzar Sehbai, Javed Sheikh, Samina Ahmed, Naveed Raza, Reham Rafiq along with several new faces.
