Bakhtawar

It is always a treat to watch Yumna Zaidi perform, hence Pakistani drama fans are always eager to find out what she is doing next. While everyone was curious about her upcoming drama serial Bakhtawar, the teasers have blown us away because nobody was expecting Yumna in this completely new avatar.

It seems that Yumna has two looks in the drama, one is of a tomboy and the other is a very petite and beautiful girl who covers her face. The official synopsis of the drama by Hum TV revealed that it is “the journey of a young headstrong girl trying to escape her troubled home, difficulties and pain and create a better tomorrow for herself.”

The first teaser of Bakhtawar shows Yumna in a dual role. It appears that she is playing the titular character, but the girl has to dress up as a man to protect her family from thugs who are troubling her. It seems that she lives alone with her mother and the thugs feel that they can take advantage of her because she has no men as a support system as she says “men like to fling dirt at women to subdue them.”

Interestingly, HUM TV has also hinted that Bakhtawar may have changed her identity to survive in this male-dominated society. The caption of Bakhtawar’s poster on the channel’s Instagram read: “With strive for the sake of happiness and freedom comes a series of grave sacrifices, maybe even changing your entire identity. Will Bakhtawar be successful in doing so?”

The second teaser reveals new cast members Zaviyar Naumaan Ijaz and Shamoon Abbasi, who are perhaps looking for a missing witness to a crime. It appears that Bakhtawar’s alternate personality is involved, and she is now treading carefully to run away but the good and the bad guys both are suspicious.

Yumna was recently seen in back-to-back hits like Parizaad, Sinf-e-Aahan and Ishq-e-La. Her selection of roles is praiseworthy because each time her character has something new to offer, different from her previous project. As Bakhtawar, her look reminds us of Bubbly Badmash played by Saboor Aly in Parizaad. However, she has also changed her voice to make the duality of her role more obvious.

Bakhtawar also introduces a fresh on-screen lead couple, Yumna and Zaviyar. And we can’t wait to watch the Bakhtwar-Dilawar chemistry on screen, even their names rhyme!

Bakhtawar appears to be a dramatic story involving crime, clashes, chases, sacrifices and possibly a love angle. The drama features a stellar cast including Saqib Sameer, Mizna Waqas, Noreen Gulwani, Sunil Shankar, Huma Nawab, Adnan Shah (Tipu) and others.

Written by Nadia Akhtar, directed by Shahid Shafaat and produced by Momina Duraid, Bakhtawar will air on HUM TV soon.
