Money Back Guarantee

The much anticipated trailer of Money Back Guarantee (MBG) released over the weekend and the fast paced caper comedy has left us wanting for more!

With a heist in the backdrop, the trailer shows only a glimpse of the things that one should expect from the film, as claimed by director Faisal Qureshi. We saw masked men, vaults of cash, prison cell, chase and fight sequences, guns blazing, lots of action and drama in a trailer which also clearly states that “the makers have not seen Money Heist yet”.

The clear distinction is made to avoid any parallels drawn by the viewers, however, it is quite evident that Money Back Guarantee is a story cooked up by a Pakistani as the anecdotes are relatable to any Pakistani and are more likely a satirical take on situations we regularly come across.

It is a comic relief and a fun tale about a heist possibly gone wrong. The multi-starrer is filled with subtle messages. In one scene, Fawad’s character says: “Agar election se pehle aise larho ghay tou party ka image kia banega? Vote kese milenge? Election se pehle sab ko sirf acha acha dikhna hota ha. [If you keep fighting like this before the election then it’ll hurt our party’s image. How will we get votes? We have to portray a really good image of our party before election].”

The policeman [played by Adnan Jaffer] says: “Mere khoon ka aik aik qatra in siyasatdano pe qurbaan, sir. [Sir, every drop of my blood is ready to spill for these politicians]”. In another shot, we see a bride-to-be (a man dressed as a bride) showing his palm. The phrase written on his palm is “Jahaiz (striked) Haram khori band karo [stop thriving on wages of iniquity].”

The humour in all these scenes in the multi-starrer truly mirrors what Pakistanis have heard, encountered or faced multiple times in their lifetime. MBG looks like a thriller with non stop developments and a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Writer and director Faisal Qureshi hasn’t revealed much about the plot to keep viewers excited for the ensemble cast.

The film has a big star cast including Fawad Khan, Wasim Akram, Shaniera Akram, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Ayesha Omar, Javed Sheikh, Jan Rambo, Gohar Rasheed, Hina Dilpazir, Shayan Khan, Mani, Kiran Malik, Ali Safina, Marhoom Ahmad Bilal, Adnan Jaffer, Shafaat Ali and Aqdas Waseem.

It seems that this satirical comedy is about men and women who are tired of being looted, lied to and killed. So, they plan to return the favour and take revenge through the same scheme: by looting, lying and killing if necessary.

Earlier in the teaser, we have seen pictures of Mustafa Qureshi on the currency notes. This time, we have found out that Wasim Akram’s character is running for elections. We also see glimpses of a dance number by Ayesha Omar and a song featuring Wasim Akram. It is reported that Fawad Khan will have Wasim Akram as his nemesis in the film which itself is an interesting combo to look forward to.

Though we have not heard any of the above mentioned songs, one of the tunes  — Pani Ka Bulbula — is catchy and goes well with the theme. As it goes: “Ye dunya pani ka bulbula… tu apne gul khila, yuhni chalta rahay ye silsila [this world is a water bubble, you do your thing… so that the sequence continues]”.

And that is what life in Pakistan is like: whatever happens, the saga continues.

The film is written, produced and directed by Faisal Qureshi under the banner of Zashko Films in collaboration with Game Over Productions. Money Back Guarantee is scheduled to be released this Eid ul Fitr on 21st April, 2023.
