Period dramas are all the rage these days. After Aangan, another play with an ensemble cast — Deewar-e-Shab — is in the offing. The pictures from the sets have been circulating for quite some time, but by the looks of its teaser, the story of the drama is based in an old era as the attire and setting of the play has a very nostalgic feel.

Directed by Iqbal Hussain, the play features Bushra Ansari, Sarah Khan, Shahzad Sheikh, Nausheen Shah, Asma Abbas, Zara Noor Abbas, Mohsin Abbas Haider, Tara Mahmood, Shahroz Sabzwari and many other notable actors. Based on a novel of the same name by Aliya Bukhari, the story shows that Shahzad and Sarah’s character are in love, however, unfortunately Sarah is married off to an older man. We got a glimpse of an angry Bushra Ansari scolding Sarah and it is indeed a sight to see her in such a strong character.

The first teaser is just the introduction of Sarah and Shahzad’s characters and we have yet to see the women of the house. In an earlier conversation with Something Haute, Zara Noor Abbas confirmed that Bushra Ansari will be playing the role of her mother and Asma Abbas will be essaying the role of her maternal aunt.

“I am playing a courtesan who sings and dances in mehfil. They are artistes, but the neighbourhood condescendingly calls them ‘ganay bajanay wali aurtein’. I had to work on my dialogue delivery as it needed a musical tone, so it was a different learning curve altogether,” Zara revealed, talking about her role.

This has left us intrigued as to what Bushra Ansari has got to do with Sarah’s wedding. Though the release date of the play has not yet been announced, you can watch the first teaser here:
